About Mittie's Tea Room Cafe:
Mittie’s Tea Room and Café has been an institution in Historic Roswell, Georgia for over twenty -two years. The American tradition of tearooms began after World War I. As more women were called upon to provide a living for their family, they often chose to open the front parlors of their homes to the public. Tea Rooms sprang up all over the country. As the railroads expanded more women began to travel. Where ever a lady might travel, she could simply inquire “Where might one find a Tea Room?” and know that the mistress of such an establishment would provide a safe haven, wholesome homemade food and a gathering place for the women of the community, as well as the tired traveler. American Tea Rooms, though not as formal as British Tea Rooms, were most often in the owner’s home and therefore at the heart of each community.
